Meet Chris Munro, Founder & Director, Combined Building Services Pty Ltd

 

Chris Munro began his career in the building industry as an apprentice carpenter and joiner, gaining early hands-on experience across residential, commercial, and industrial construction. This solid foundation developed into a lifelong passion for building, problem-solving, and improving how buildings perform.

With over 30 years of industry experience, Chris has built a reputation for technical integrity and practical leadership, particularly in the remedial building and waterproofing sector. Since transitioning into remedial work in the mid-1990s, he has become a trusted expert in diagnosing complex building defects, developing effective treatment methodologies, and guiding projects through resolution with clarity and care. He takes a strategic, methodical approach to each project, understanding not just the defect, but the underlying cause, and works closely with consultants, strata managers, and owners to develop clear, practical pathways to resolution.

Chris holds an Advanced Certificate in Building Supervision and a Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing. He is also a licensed builder in both New South Wales and Queensland, and a registered Building Practitioner under the NSW Design and Building Practitioners (DBP) scheme, ensuring compliance with the latest legislative requirements for regulated designs and building work. Much of his work involves Class 2 residential and strata-managed properties, where compliance, communication, and stakeholder coordination are as critical as the technical scope of works. Chris remains hands-on in both planning and execution, often leading initial investigations and guiding the scope development process to ensure accuracy, value, and long-term results.

As the founder and director of Combined Building Services, Chris leads a close-knit team with shared values of professionalism, reliability, and accountability. Having grown up in a family-run business, he has embedded those same principles into CBS, fostering a culture where colleagues operate more like family and take genuine pride in the quality of service delivered. At CBS, clients value the team’s straight-talking, solutions-focused approach, grounded in technical knowledge and delivered with genuine care.

Away from the tools and reports, Chris is happiest at home with his wife Laura and their three kids, who may not roll out the rock star welcome quite like they used to (these days it’s more likely an eye-roll than a standing ovation) but still remain the best part of his day. Whenever the schedule allows the family escapes to the bush, continuing their shared mission to explore as much of the country together as they can, before the kids are too cool to come along.

About Stuart

Stuart’s strong work ethic and passion for resolving intricate construction challenges is evident from his onsite work. He proudly wears his CBS uniform, as he is aware that it embodies excellence and exceptional workmanship.
Throughout his career, he has accumulated over two decades of experience in the building industry. His journey commenced as a data engineer, followed by roles as a glazier and currently he is a main site supervisor at Combined Building Services.
In his leisure time, he engages in adventurous activities with his two young sons.

About Matt

Matt began his career in joinery and shopfitting, gaining valuable experience on a diverse range of projects, from commercial fit outs to high-end residential homes. After completing his apprenticeship, he moved into remedial building to broaden his expertise and take on more specialised work within the construction industry.
With over 15 years in the remedial sector, Matt has built a wide range of experience investigating and resolving an array of building issues. He enjoys the problem solving side of remedial work and aims to provide practical solutions that stand the test of time.
Matt continues to expand his knowledge by attending Master Builders seminars and industry information nights, keeping up to date with current standards and techniques. He values a hands on approach and takes care to maintain clear communication and positive working relationships on every project.

About Rowena

Rowena has experience both here and overseas – ranging from event and project management to marketing and office start-up of new businesses, systems and processes. Her management experience includes many projects from conception to completion, working with a number of Australia’s leading industries. This has meant meeting tight time frames and ensuring customer satisfaction is upheld to a high standard.
Rowena has the ability to troubleshoot and think positively. She is able to give a detailed evaluation of client’s needs and an ability to deliver a tailored solution.
She also has project experience in Heritage Building Works including council application and approval; all safe work practise on sites with asbestos; and public facility upgrades and platform resurfacing.
Rowena prides herself on being communicative, professional and thorough. Having been an integral part of Combined Building Services for nearly ten years, she enjoys the satisfaction of an exceptional result for our clients.
Outside of work, Rowena enjoys being outdoors, seeing live entertainment and spending time with her family.

Roof Repair and Maintenance

We conduct repairs and maintenance on flat membrane roofs, metal, tile and slate roofs. We can also assist with roof replacement.

Strata Property Repair & Maintenance

We have a proven record working on Strata properties. We understand the requirements of working in an occupied property, minimising the impact on occupants. 

Remedial Building & Waterproofing

We specialise in diagnosing and resolving building defects in residential and commercial properties including schools, nursing homes and government buildings. 

Structural Building Repairs

We provide structural building services including spalling concrete repair, structural steel repair, fabrication and installation, retaining walls, swimming pools and facade restoration.
